4 Essential Tips for Hosting Guests with Dietary Restrictions

April 26, 2024

Recognizing and accommodating your guests’ dietary restrictions-whether they result from food allergies, lifestyle choices, or religious convictions is an important part of hosting a wedding reception. But it doesn’t have to be stressful! Here are four tips for making sure all or your guests are happy and full!

  1. Talk with potential caterers about their experiences with dietary restrictions.  What menu options do they have and how do they ensure that those guests who need special meals get them?
  2. Consider adding a spot on your RSVP card for guests to let you know what their restrictions or preferences are. Once you know how many guests need special meals, you and your caterer can figure out a menu that works best.
  3. Don’t overextend yourself. Your reception is a time for you to celebrate your union, not worry about if your Great Aunt got her vegetarian meal. Let your caterer and/or venue staff handle it.
  4. If there is a restriction that your caterer cannot accommodate, make sure to communicate that to your guest before the big day. Consider giving them the option to bring their own meal from home. The last thing you want at your wedding reception is someone suffering a painful allergic reaction, getting sick, or not eating.
