Caitlin Smith

Riding Instructor

“One of the factors that I love most about my position at Nickajack is when a student applies what they learn in lessons to their life outside of the barn, whether that be from gaining confidence, being assertive, or taking on additional responsibilities at home or school.  My goal each lesson is to refine a student’s technical equitation but also instill in them a sense of determination, confidence, and tenacity that applies to so much more than their position on a horse.” ~Caitlin

Caitlin brings over 20 years of experience specifically in hunter jumper, dressage, and eventing training.  She spent her middle school and high school days traveling the country working her way up to training level eventing while also working for several large animal veterinarians.  In college, Caitlin represented Ohio Wesleyan University, competing in their IHSA equestrian team.

Caitlin was lucky enough to train with former Olympian and FEI trainers including Jeff Taylor, Joanne White, and Dagmar Zimmerman.

Outside of the barn, Caitlin works as a Research and Development Chemist and enjoys spending time with her husband and their wrinkly shar pei.
